Friday, January 16, 2004 Today Deb had to go in for tests for stomach problems and was told that the doctors did not believe that her problems were in her stomach. The doctors scheduled for tests on Tuesday.

Sunday, January 18, 2004
Deb called the Doctor back to complain that the pain was worse and she did not feel she should wait until Tuesday for additional testing; they sent her to the ER.

Monday, January 19, 2004
Deb has additional tests run, we are waiting on the results.

Tuesday, January 20, 2004
Test results are back. Doctors feel that there is a growth on one or both of her ovaries. Surgery to remove the growth is scheduled for tomorrow.

Deb is out of surgery and in recovery. Good news is that she is recovering well; bad news is that the growth was more extensive than we had expected, and does not look benign. Doctors performed a full hysterectomy and removed part of her bowels. She will not need a colostomy bag, which is more good news. However, there is concern that it may have spread through her lymph glands. We now have to wait 3-4 days for the pathology results.

Deb was moved to ICU from recovery last night. She is still heavily medicated and not really lucid, but Doctors and Nurses seem to be satisfied with her progress.

Friday, January 23, 2004
She is in ICU and lucid in-between morphine induced cat naps. She took a short walk this morning, and a longer walk this afternoon. The nurses are impressed with her progress and attitude.

We got the pathology report back today. It was confirmed that she has stage IV colon cancer of the Krukenberg type. her pathologists were shocked at how active it appeared. Prognosis is serious. Once she is healed, which we are told should be in about 2 weeks, she has to go for a PET scan, which will show exactly where any remaining cancer is located. She is still in good spirits, ready for the fight, and getting stronger by the day. She was up walking all the way around the ICU floor today, a good five-minute walk.

Today was rough on all of us. She is coming off the morphine so she really didn't sleep well last night and needed a blood transfusion today because her red count (hemoglobin) was low. This is normal from what her best friend said but very scary from this standpoint. The girls are really starting to miss her terribly and that's hard. But, all in all, I think it's just something that's gonna be a day to day, week to week, thing.

Wednesday, January 28, 2004
The Doctors have removed most of her IV's and tubes, leaving her more mobile. They are however, having trouble reducing and regulating her pain medication. This process has left Deb bouncing slowly from pain, to hallucinogenic sleep and back again. During a few of her better minutes, she got the chance to visit with her oldest daughter Allie, who had not been able to see Mommy in over a week and was really missing her. This visit also served to remind Deb that while she is feeling much better, she is not yet ready to smell, let alone consume, children's snack foods. For now she will stick to her bland liquids.

Thursday, January 29, 2004
After a long week of trying to get her pain medication properly regulated, Deb is finally beginning to feel sore but normal. Today was youngest daughter Rachel's turn to spend a few minutes visiting Mommy.

Saturday, January 31, 2004
Debbie was given her walking papers this morning, and by early afternoon was happy to be sleeping in her own bed.
